Emphysema is a progressive disease that causes destruction of alveoli and reduction of lung elasticity which causes air trapping and hyperinflation of the lobes. Preferential filling in the most diseased portions of the lung causes hyperinflation which compresses more preserved lobes or segments that would normally function better. COPD is the third leading cause of death worldwide [1].
