La destruction des tissus pulmonaires entraine la disparition des tissus de soutien qui maintiennent naturellement les voies respiratoires ouvertes. Pendant la respiration, les voies respiratoires s&rsquo;affaissent et se bouchent de sorte que l\u2019air ne peut plus \u00eatre \u00e9vacu\u00e9 lors de l&rsquo;expiration. Les sympt\u00f4mes incluent un essouflement lors d&rsquo;activit\u00e9s physiques et un sentiment d&rsquo;apn\u00e9e continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La principale cause de l\u2019emphys\u00e8me pulmonaire est le tabagisme mais l\u2019inhalation d\u2019agents polluants dans l&rsquo;environnement ou des facteurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques peuvent aussi provoquer la maladie.<sup>3<\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>L&#8217;emphys\u00e8me d\u00e9truit les fibres \u00e9lastiques (\u00e9lastine) du poumon. Normalement, le tissu pulmonaire pr\u00e9sente une \u00e9lasticit\u00e9 qui maintient les voies respiratoires ouvertes et permets la circulation de l&rsquo;air pendant la respiration. Quand un patient atteint d&#8217;emphys\u00e8me expire, les voies respiratoires s&rsquo;affaissent et l&rsquo;air se retrouve pi\u00e9g\u00e9 dans le poumon. Lors de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 physique, les poumons deviennent trop gonfl\u00e9s (on parle d&rsquo;hyperinflation) \u00e0 cause de l&rsquo;air pi\u00e9g\u00e9 et la respiration devient plus difficile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avec la progession de la maladie, de plus en plus de tissu pulmonaire est d\u00e9truit et de plus en plus d&rsquo;air est pi\u00e9g\u00e9 dans le poumon ce qui provoque une hyperinflation s\u00e9v\u00e8re. Au stade avanc\u00e9 de la maladie, la respiration devient tr\u00e8s difficile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-2dda1477\">\n<div class=\"gb-container
